In 1968, when HAIR originally opened, it was a very exciting time. The hippie philosophy had brought about a feeling of true peace and love. In those days there seemed to be a real opportunity of actually making change happen.
Over the ensuing decades we have seen a constant erosion of freedom and the other necessities of a democratic society. Things are far worse today than they were decades ago. We hope to create a platform for a movement to bring about positive change in America. HAiR, like no other theatrical piece, can be a platform for such a movement. Recall that the theatre has for centuries, going back to Greece, been the stimulator of progress and change.
